Dan Vanden Heuvel

I'm a Wisconsin native and graduated from Wausau East High School in Wausau, WI (Go, Lumberjacks!). Then, I earned B.S. degrees in English and Conservation Biology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (Go, Badgers!) and eventually a Master of Educational Technology through Boise State University (Go, Broncos!). For 10 years after college, I worked in wilderness education, primarily for the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) throughout the western U.S. and Alaska. I have been a biology teacher at Wood River High School since 2012 and teach Biology, AP Biology, and Botany & Zoology Lab. In 2025, I served as an Ambassador for the Science Communication Lab in Berkeley, CA. I also regularly attend and have presented at the National Biology Teachers Conference (NABT). In addition to teaching, I coached boys soccer at WRHS from 2008-2016 and WRMS from 2018-2020 & 2024-2025. My main interests outside of school are guitar, outdoor activities (e.g. flyfishing, dirt biking, hiking, wildlife watching), hockey, art, and traveling to new places.
