Brad Hershey

My name is Brad Hershey and I've been teaching orchestra and guitar at Wood River High School since 2019. I studied music and biology at the University of Puget Sound and the University of Idaho where I earned a B.M. in Instrumental Performance in 2002. I have been actively teaching music and performing for over two decades. In addition to working for Blaine County School District I am the conductor of the Wood River Community Orchestra. I also teach for the Sun Valley Music Festival's Music Institute, for both the year-round and summer programs. Prior to teaching for Blaine County, I was Upper School Music Director at Community School in Sun Valley for eleven years.
Before moving to the Wood River Valley in 2006, I played double bass with the Boise Philharmonic for several seasons after playing for three with the Washington-Idaho Symphony. Now, I perform regularly with several ensembles in the Wood River Valley in the classical, jazz and bluegrass worlds and I am principal bass for Ballet Sun Valley.
When I'm not playing or teaching music, I like getting outside and climbing mountains. I also enjoy gardening and cooking in my spare time.
Leonard Bernstein once said, "To achieve great things, two things are needed: a plan and not quite enough time."
